Before you get into the water, you and your dive buddies should discuss your dive plan so that everyone has a clear idea of the plan.

Once you're underwater, communicating with your dive buddies continues to be important. Sometimes, your safety depends on it!

 

More than this though, it always makes your dive more fun. A lot of divers take a slate and pencil along and write notes to each other during a dive. You might ask, "Where's the boat?", or say "I'm ready to go back up. How about you?"

Divers have developed standard hand signals for things you might commonly want to get across underwater.
